Novi Pazar is rich with abundant cultural and historical heritage from the Neolithic and Iron Age periods, through the Roman and Byzantine Empires, the medieval Serbian state, and the Ottoman period, multicultural spirit and European charm.
Church of St. apostles Peter and Paul
St.Peter's Church
Church of St. of the apostles Peter and Paul, is a cultural monument of exceptional importance. A rotunda-type church whose round inner circle dates back to the 6th century. The upper parts were restored in the 9th century, when a gallery above the outer wall was added, and it is believed to have happened during the time of Prince Caslav. Peter's church is the oldest preserved church among the Serbs. According to one legend, Peter's church was built by the apostle Titus, a student of St. Peter. According to the second, the church was built by the Romans, from the retinue of the Great Mgistrate Pavlimir called Belo.
Isa Bey Hammam
Turkish bath
The hamam (bath) was built by the founder of Novi Pazar, Isa-bey Isakovic, in the 60s and 80s of the 15th century. Together with the one in Prizren, the hamam in Novi Pazar is the only preserved facility of this type in Serbia. Like all hammams of a developed type, this one also has all the rooms that were implied by the already established structure: fountain, kapaluk (resting area) and several bathing rooms.
Sopocani Monastery
Endowment of King Uros I
The Sopocani Monastery was built by King Uros I in the middle of the 13th century. The monastery was built and painted from 1263 to 1268. A priceless gallery of Serbian wall paintings has been preserved inside the monastery. King Uros I, his mother Anna Dandolo, Archbishop Ioannikia, and several other personalities were buried in the monastery. In 1979, the Sopocani Monastery, together with old Ras, was placed on the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage.

Park - fortress
The rampart and watchtower are located in the very center of the city, on the elevation of the right bank of the Raska River in the oldest part of the city. The fortress has the shape of a triangle, at the corners of which there are bastions - tabs, polygonal foundations of different shapes and dimensions. The stone ramparts were built during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz in the second half of the 19th century.
Arab mosque
The old bazaar
One of the oldest buildings of Islamic culture in Novi Pazar is the Arab Mosque. There are no reliable information on when it was built, but it is known that it was first mentioned in the census from 1528. There are various legends about the builder of this building. According to one, the mosque was built by Hasan Celebija or Hasan-bey, who was an Arab, which is why the mosque was called the Arab mosque. In the sources from that time, Hasan Çelebi is mentioned as the builder of the mosque, without providing information about his origin.
Amir agin Inn
A witness of time
Many travelers and business people were coming to Novi Pazar and passing through it, and at that time they mostly stayed in inns. One of the authentic witnesses of these times in this area is Amir agin khan in the city center. There are no preserved data on the time of construction of the Inn. It is assumed that it originates from the 17th century and that it is one of the many inns mentioned by Evlija Celebija. Amir agin Inn has a distinct architectural and historic-urbanistic value and is certainly one of the most beautiful buildings of its kind in the country.
Lejlek Mosque
Stork prayer
It is located in the Cukovac neighborhood and is one of the oldest mosques in the city. The old name of this mosque is preserved in the documents: Ahmed-beg or Ahmed-beg Silhadar mosque, which probably refers to the name of its founder.
Altun Alem Mosque
Early Ottoman architecture
Of the numerous ancient Novi Pazar mosques, the Altun Alem mosque stands out the most due to its antiquity and beauty. It is located at the bottom of the old bazaar (ul. 1. Maja) whith the so-called Tsarska Jada - the road towards Kosovska Mitrovica and Skopje, i.e. Istanbul passing through it.
Motrilja tower
Symbol of the city
Next to the northern rampart, there is a relatively well-preserved tower known as Stara izvidnica or Watchtower, today a symbol of the city. It was built at the beginning of the 17th century. Of the numerous buildings that were integrated in the fortress, the Motrilja Tower is the only one still preserved, an architecturally well-designed and shaped building with an octagonal base.
St. George's Pillars
Endowment of Stefan Nemanja
The St. George's Pillars, another pearl of the Serbian medieval state on the UNESCO World Heritage List, was built on a hill above today's Novi Pazar, in Stari Ras. It is one of the oldest Serbian monasteries. This, in many ways special temple, was built by Stefan Nemanja in the first years after his accession to the throne of the Great Magistrate (construction was completed in 1171), and the church was painted around 1175.
